“Franconian Village Beer Tour”

"Franconian Village Beer Tour"...Prost !

You've probably already been on a beer tour or two in cities like Munich or Prague. Now it's time to try a "Franconian Village beer tour" that takes you out into the countryside where nearly every pathway leads to a brewery.

The countryside that I'm referring to is the Franconian Switzerland region near Nuremberg. It is world-famous for its high density of traditional breweries. Case in point: in Germany, there are 1,284 breweries and more than half of them (618) brew their beer in Bavaria and 201 of them in Upper Franconia. And...73 of the 201 Upper Franconian breweries are located in the Franconian Switzerland region which makes it the largest concentration of breweries in the world.

But wait, it gets better...according to the Guinness Book of Records, the small village of Aufsess in Franconian Switzerland, as measured by its number of inhabitants (1,400), has the highest brewery density (four breweries) in the entire world!

So what are we waiting for? Let's GO!

My Franconian Village Beer Tour takes all afternoon and is never the same twice because, with 73 breweries and hundreds of beer cellars and beer gardens to choose from, I like to mix things up. Besides, there are numerous events taking place in the area throughout the year and I like to take them in when possible. In any event, the tour is a lot of fun and an opportunity to learn about the history of beer and take in the Franconian countryside.

For parties of six or less, pick-up and drop-off with my personal vehicle from locations within central Nuremberg is FREE. If your party is larger than six people, please let me know so I can give you a quote for the additional costs involved.

I can also customize my Franconian Village Beer Tour to take your individual wishes into consideration. Just let me know and I'll be happy to give you a quote for any tour variation that you want. For example, if you want to spend more than one day in the area to discover everything Franconian Switzerland has to offer.

Kevin is the owner and tour guide for Nuremberg Tours in English. As we reflected back on our trip the four of us overwhelmingly agree that the best part was Kevin. He took us one day on a beer of Bavaria tour that included stopping at a street-side restaurant that served some of the best chicken I have ever had. I STILL CRAVE IT (thanks Kevin, for giving me a craving for chicken 4000 miles away!). He also took us to other out-of-the-way places we would have never found so that we could enjoy a variety of beer. And in addition, he took us to other sites on our "beer" tour according to what we were interested in! On our second day, he took us to Bamberg, a UNESCO world heritage site with well-preserved buildings not destroyed during the war. He led us through the streets with knowledgeable insight. I could not help but notice the cruise tours with a mass of people listening to the stock narration and moving on to the next place. Kevin allowed us to linger at a place, to ask questions, to have the conversation go where it would go. In other words, it was not like going on a tour but walking with a friend and enjoying the day. Oh, did I say that in Bamberg he led us to yet another place that had an onion stuffed with hamburger and bacon dish that was wonderful and it was paired with a dark smoked beer! YES, I HAD TWO OF THOSE BEERS AND YES I AM CRAVING THAT ONE TOO. (thanks, Kevin!)

Do yourself a favor and contact him for one of his tours to two, or more! It will be the highlight of your trip. If I remember he was asking for a two-star review because of all the five-star reviews he gets so that people will take seriously the other reviews. Sorry, Kevin, the smoked beer alone gets you five stars, add the chicken for five more, and the variety of beer for five more, and finally, the great narration and conversation all mean you get a solid 100%. Did I mention he promptly picks you up at your door and drops you off either at your hotel or your cruise boat? So, FIVE STARS FROM ME.

My wife and I were on a beer-themed river cruise and were ending with two days in Nuremberg. We originally contacted Kevin for his Rothenberg tour since it was not on our cruise agenda and a must-see historic village. However, due to a mechanical issue and delay, our cruise itinerary was changed to add a Rothenberg stop. A last minute contact with Kevin resulting in him agreeing to change our tour itinerary to the Franconian Village Beer Tour. We are very happy we made the change and appreciate Kevin's flexibility. A mid-morning hotel pickup and we were on our way to Bamberg. A beautiful historic town that happened to be in the middle of a 5-day beer festival. We went early to avoid the crowds but got to see the street vendors setting up and visited a great old brewery (beautiful building) try the classic smokebeer (you have to try it!) and see the classic Bamberg Stuffed Onion on mashed potatoes. Wow! Couldn't try it because Kevin promised an even better lunch at our next stop. On to Huppendorf and the best roasted half-chicken and potato salad you've ever tasted. Plus more beer! A great outside dining area with locals enjoying a Friday lunch. Can it get any better? Final stop, the village of Forchheim and another old brewery where the local men were gathering to start their Friday evening early. The brewery was out of the beer we thought we would get but plenty of substitutes. With each stop Kevin provided some local history, a few sights, and recommendations about the beers. We arrived back in Nuremberg in the early evening, tired, filled with food and beer, and happy with a very good tour that capped off our cruise. Thanks, Kevin!

Kevin is extremely knowledgeable and it's obvious he loves giving tours. Kevin listens and is very attuned to what is... you want to take away from your tour. I did two private tours with Kevin, Bamberg and Dachau. I could not have picked a better tour guide. Personality plus and you have made another friend with Kevin. I would recommend him in a heartbeat. Your time is well spent with Kevin.read more

We had the pleasure of using Kevin for two days during our trip to Germany to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. ... Kevin was on time the morning of our tour and extremely prepared. He gave us multiple options for customization and the result was that we really had quite a bit of fun in Rothenburg. The next day Kevin took us to many of the WWII sites in Nuremberg. He's super knowledgeable on the subject matter and we learned so much. I also like the fact that he has a comfortable ride to transport one in. In closing, I highly recommend using Kevin's services if you are looking for an engaged, knowledgeable and personable guide.read more

We took two tours with Kevin back to back on a Saturday for a total of 7 hours. The first was the Nuremberg WWII Combo... Tour. This tour was fascinating and Kevin really knows his stuff. His use of pictures to show what these places looked like during those rallies was especially effective. We learned so much. It was a Saturday so we were able to actually get into Room 600 at Justice Palace because court was not in session. Because Kevin was so informative, we didn't have to spend a lot of time reading some of the material in the courthouse because it was just a repeat. It was a really cold that day, especially at Zeppelin Field and the Great Street, but we didn't feel hurried or shorted. After the Combo Tour we did the Nuremberg Old Town Walking Tour. This was also a great tour. I highly recommend both but especially the WWII combo (not because of Kevin but because of our interests).read more

We spent 8 delightful hours with Kevin on our Private Rothenburg Day Tour. Rothenburg is a medieval walled city where... many of the original structures are still standing. Kevin knows his history, and easily answered our questions without skipping a beat! Kevin introduced us to several of his business associates...walking with and listening to Kevin was like having a personal tour with Rick Steves! A tour with Kevin ANYWHERE will give you a great value for your money. Give Kevin a try - you will love him!read more

In 2015 I came to Nuremberg from Calgary Canada to view sites of WW2, . Kevin was my guide. After realizing his... extensive knowledge of Hitler's war, I knew that he was the guide for me.In 2018 I gave him a list of places that I wanted to see and he put the itinerary together for me.For two weeks in November we traveled in Poland and Germany. We visited sites in the Owl Mountains of Poland among others as we made our way to Berlin. In Berlin and Colditz we saw a whole lot more.I couldn't have asked for a more extensive tour. All of the places on my bucket list were covered and many more. Nothing was left out.I can't thank Kevin enough for the remarkable adventure that I just had. It was an incredible WW2 tour. This trip was number one on my bucket list and Kevin made it happen!read more
